Review: e.l.f. Little Black Beauty Book: Warm Edition

Hi, friends! Today I wanted to review for you a thrifty find that I got at Marshalls. Did I need it? No, but there's no Target within a convenient proximity to me, and that's the only place I can get e.l.f. without ordering online (and I hate paying for shipping). So, I saw this baby on discount for $5 (marked down from $8--wow, I know), and for 48 shadows, I thought "Why not?"

This is a book of 48 neutral-colored shadows with the occasional fun one thrown in. There's a little mirror built in, and the material of the "book" is pretty sturdy, making it great for travelling. Some of the shadows are very similar in color, but the quality of these shadows vary, so having multiple colors in the same range is actually a nice back-up.

Some of the shadows were magnificent finds--pigmented, smooth, soft--while others were hard, chalky, and were barely visible. Still, it was $5, and even with the duds, there were still a fair amount of colors that are a great quality. A good portion of these shadows required building, but some glided on very smoothly with good pigmentation on the first swipe. Many of the shimmery colors are really pretty, but there aren't really that many good, pigmented mattes (which I wasn't too surprised about, since it's usually harder to find a good matte than a good shimmer). With a primer, these might have a little more staying power, and it'll probably help with the pigmentation on some of them, but I wanted to see how they'd fair without. I swatched each of the colors (phew!), and I photographed them all for you. Feel free to click to enlarge any of them, if you want to get a closer look.

I just love the bright turquoise on the end! Here's a closer look (I also like the brown in the middle of this picture--the gold, not so much)

Wow, that's a lot of swatches! I hope this was helpful for you all in your choice of whether or not you'd want to purchase this.

Unfortunately, with the majority of these, I could wipe the swatches off my arm with a tissue. The few stragglers that couldn't be wiped away, I was able to completely rinse away with just a little water. Would I repurchase this palette? Well, I know myself, and a $5 deal is a $5 deal. But, I think there are better things to spend your $5 on. So, if I were able to show some self-restraint and remind myself that the majority of these shadows aren't worth it, I probably wouldn't buy it again. Still, there are a few shadows that I'm excited to use (with a primer) and I'm not necessarily unhappy that I bought it.

This is no longer being sold at Target or on e.l.f.'s website, but if you're interested in purchasing it, it can still be found on Amazon and at your nearest Marshalls or TJ Maxx sometimes. Really, discount stores like Marshalls are where I find the best things at a really great price, so it's one of my favorite places to shop. From clipboards to beauty products to shoes to dresses, I've gotten them all at Marshalls and/or TJ Maxx. It's a wonderland of deals--just don't get lost.

Do you have any e.l.f. products? What do you think of them? I love inexpensive product suggestions!
