Birchbox: February 2015 Review

Hello, friends! Today, on this lovely afternoon  while enduring YET ANOTHER BLIZZARD, I am here to share with you my February Birchbox! I'm surprised it made it to me this early with the horrible weather we've been having. I'm really happy about my products this month and I'm so excited to share them with you!

Birchbox? What's that? - Birchbox is a monthly beauty and lifestyle subscription service. It sends 4-5 deluxe samples that are curated to your beauty profile. It is $10 a month, and has a wonderful rewards program, in which you can earn points for reviewing products and making purchases in the Birchbox Shop. You can then redeem those points for full-sized products! It's probably the best rewards program out there, in my opinion, which was one of the big draws in me signing up. If you're interested in subscribing to Birchbox, I would love it if you used my referral link. Thank you!

As always, Birchbox, you flatter me.

Once again, I went with the the guest editor curated box. This month, Birchbox collaborated with Rent the Runway, a company that lets you rent really expensive gowns and things like that. I sprung for it based on the fact that the products included looked nice, and I wasn't head-over-heels with the three sample choice options this month. The box is also super cute, as opposed to the usual brown cardboard, so that's a plus.

I did a little browsing on Rent the Runway's site, since I got curious, and some of the stuff on there is really cute. Some of the prices aren't as bad as I thought they'd be, though if I needed something nice for an event, for the price I'd rather just buy it and have it in my arsenal.

Included with this special edition box is a $30-off code for anything on Rent the Runway's site. The problem is, you need to spend $75 or more, which means this coupon will be going in the trash. Oh well, I don't go anywhere fancy anyway.

The info card brings joy to people everywhere.

But enough about that. Let's get to the good stuff~

DERMA E Anti-Wrinkle Vitamin A Glycolic Scrub
(SAMPLE-SIZE [1oz]: $3.19) (Full-size cost [4oz]: $12.95)

I've heard good things about Derma E products from people who have sampled them in the past, so I have high hopes for this. I don't quite get why it has glycolic acid (which is an AHA), since it won't really do much in a rinse-off product. Anyway, I'm still currently working on using the scrubs from my Fortune Cookie Soap Fall Box and July Birchbox, so I'll be putting this on the backburner until I at least finish those up. This has an expiration date on it for 2017, so I have two years!

FEKKAI Blowout Hair Refresher Dry Shampoo
(SAMPLE-SIZE [1.7oz]: $10) (Full-size cost [4.9oz]: $20)

This was great timing, since I'm almost out of my Batiste Dry Shampoo (see my September Favorites), I don't use dry shampoo a lot, but occasionally I'll need it because my second-day hair isn't cooperating, or because the water pressure at school is a joke and sometimes the shower doesn't rinse out my conditioner. One of you said on the College Beauty Buff Facebook page that is smells amazing, so I'm excited to try it! (Fun fact: you can actually buy this deluxe travel size in the BB shop, though the full-size is a better value).

NOT SOAP, RADIO Body Wash in The Stuff That Cupid Dips His Arrows in
(SAMPLE-SIZE [1.5 fl oz]: $1.77) (Full-size cost [13.61 fl oz]: $16)

I'm always hesitant to get scented products in subscription boxes since they're so personal, but wow I love the way this smells! It reminds me of roses and berries and totally fits for Valentine's Day. I have to read you the description on the back of the bottle because it's too good not to share: "Emerge from the water a femme fatale, practically wearing an armor of highly-charged pheromones. You exude health, sensuality and well-being. You are irresistible-lit from within. Invest in a stick, as you will be fending off admirers right and left. It's not magic; it just works." Sign me up! The only thing that confuses me is that the info card says it's a body wash, but the bottle gives directions on using it as a bubble bath, so I might just wait until I got home and have a bathtub at my disposal. It might just double as both, but this smells too good to waste!

SUMITA Color Contrast Eyeliner in Navy
(SAMPLE-SIZE [.6g]: $4.81) (Full-size cost [1.6g]: $11)

I received one of these eyeliners in a different color back in April. Much like last time, I won't be opening this one for awhile, because I don't use eyeliner often (half the time I wear dark eyeshadow as liner, and the other half I use nothing). This is good to have in case I need navy eyeliner, but I don't want to unwrap it until I do. Makeup expires, you know!

THE BALM Read My Lips Lipgloss in Bam!
(SAMPLE-SIZE [.08fl oz]: $0.50) (Full-size cost [.3oz]: $15)

I received a product from theBalm in my November Birchbox and I'm always happy to see another one! I've never been disappointed with one of their products and this one is no exception. This is a pretty neutral color, offering a slight wash of coral on the lips but still remaining natural for everyday. The formula is smooth and while not being sticky, so it's quite comfortable to wear. I haven't found it to be drying, either, even after it wears off. I think I'll get a lot of use out of it!

The Stats:
  • derma E Scrub: $3.19
  • Fekkai Dry Shampoo: $10
  • Actually Soap Body Wash: $1.77
  • Another Sumita Eyeliner: $4.81
  • theBalm Lipgloss: $0.50
  • Total: $20.27

The Best:  I'm happy with all of it, but I'm probably most excited to use the lip gloss.

The Worst: Probably the face scrub. Not that I think it might be bad, but just because I'm not big on scrubs or physical exfoliants. I might still use it up eventually; it'll just take a very, very long time.

The Verdict: Once again, I'm really satisfied with the editor curated box. Part of me misses getting a surprise every month, but since we picked these boxes at the end of January, it was still kind of a surprise since I'd forgotten what was in it! The value of this particular box isn't as high as they usually are (Lately, my boxes have been worth between $30-$40) but I'm happy with the products in it so no harm done!

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?
