My Lipstick Collection: The Reds

My Lipstick Collection: The Reds, featuring Butter London, Michael Marcus, CoverGirl, NARS, and Revlon!

Hi, friends! Happy Friday! Today I'm going to be starting a new mini series here on the blog. It's been awhile since I've done something like this, and I like the idea of doing a cohesive project, so I figured why not? Basically, I'm going to be sorting through my lipstick collection and show you what products I've accumulated and how they stack up against one another. Think of it as a bunch of mini reviews in one.

This series was actually inspired by a trip to the mall, in which I almost impulsively bought a lipstick in MAC, before I realized I probably had a similar color at home. I figured this post would be good for both of us--to get myself organized and to share my findings with all of you!

But enough about that. Let's get to the good stuff~

Because my lipstick collection is a little bigger than the average person's (although I could be wrong on this--how many lipsticks do you own?), I figured I would break it up into a few posts according to color. Today we're kicking things off with the reds, because holiday season is upon us, and I know I personally love rocking a red lip for Christmas.

My Lipstick Collection: The Reds - Butter London, Michael Marcus, CoverGirl, Nars, Revlon
Lipsticks are listed from left to right below.

BUTTER LONDON Lippy Bloody Brilliant Lip Crayon in Lady Bird ($20 | .1oz) - I won this lipstick in a giveaway hosted by Kristina of The Feminine Files! Butter London is typically known for their nail polishes, but this lip pencil is quite nice! It has a creamy formula with a glossy finish and is comfortable to wear on the lips. This is an opaque tomato red with an orange tint to it that makes it perfect for summer. If you have fair skin, I think this red would look really flattering on you, since it won't overpower your complexion like a dark red might. Also, if you're wanting to get on the orange lip trend but are a little scared, this is a great place to start!

MICHAEL MARCUS Lipstick in Debbie ($24 | .17oz) - I received this lipstick in my Wantable Box. This is a true red, not leaning too cool or too warm, making it suitable for a wide range of skin tones. I actually didn't wear this as much as thought I would when I received it, but I really should try to pull it out more often. There's nothing wrong with it; the lipstick is opaque, creamy, and provides a smooth application with a glossy finish. I guess I just don't wear a red lip that often. But I should!

COVERGIRL Lip Perfection Lipstick in Seduce ($7 | .12oz) - I wore this lipstick in my #GirlsCan Giveaway post last year. It appears CoverGirl has changed their makeup line a bit since the time I bought this, though this exact lipstick is still available on Amazon. But I think this is pretty similar, if not identical, to their Colorlicious Lipstick in Seduce Scarlet

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella ($26 | .09oz) - This deluxe sample size lip pencil was included in the free Sephora Beauty Insider birthday gift this year! I'd never tried anything from Nars before this, and I have to say now that I've used this, I want to test out their other products! This lip pencil is a beautiful scarlet red, and even though it's matte and doesn't have any shine, it doesn't feel drying or uncomfortable on the lips. It's thin enough to neatly line the outside of the lips, but thick enough to fill in the lips as well. I like to think of it as a lip liner and lipstick in one, just in a pencil crayon format. It's been my go-to "going out" lipstick lately. I love how it's a deep, sexy red, but it doesn't feel too dark for my complexion. It's also a great way to dress up a makeup look in a flash.

REVLON Colorburst Lip Butter in Red Velvet ($8.50 | .09oz) - I'm sure I've waxed poetic about the Revlon Lip Butters enough, but how about one more time? This color has actually been discontinued, because Revlon is STUPID, but thankfully it's still on Amazon. This is the lipstick that really got me into reds! It's a sheer, neutral red, though offers impressive pigmentation for something that's one step above a tinted lip balm. All of the lipsticks in this line are great for stepping into a color you're scared about, like hot pinks and deep reds. The formula is extremely creamy and comfortable to wear, but they're not as long lasting, as say, the NARS lip pencil I talked about above. I don't usually like wearing red lipstick during the day, since it makes me feel overdressed, but this is an exception to that for me.
