Review: Modere Beauty Box

Hey, friends! Today I wanted to share with you a cool new beauty box by Modere. They make a little bit of everything, from skincare to vitamins to laundry products, and they've just launched a beauty box program. I've never seen anything like it before, so I wanted to share!

Modere Beauty Box? What's That?: Modere is a website that sells everything from Beauty Box is a one-time purchase box that allows you to sample Modere's skincare and hair care without committing. Since beauty is such an individual thing, my favorite thing about Modere is how risk-free it is. You'll receive is a big box with four full-sized items, four of the same products in their small sample sizes, and a fifth full-size product. What you do is you use the sample sizes for 7 days and see if you like them, and if you do, you keep the products. If you don't, you can send the full-sizes back and keep the samples and the fifth product as a free gift. If you only like some of them, you just send back the the full-sizes you don't like or won't use, and they'll only bill you for the products you keep. They even give you the return label! It's really hassle-free. You keep what you like and give back what you don't. If you would like to purchase a beauty box, please click here to use my referral link. Thank you!

The box costs $79, but before you have a heart attack, let me put it into perspective for you. Let's round and say each of the four full-sized products cost $20, which is a really good deal since most of them cost more than that. Then it's like you're getting the samples and the full-sized fifth product for free (which is a great deal). In actuality, everything together is valued at $140, so it's much cheaper than buying them individually. If try the box and only wind up liking one of the products, they'll just bill you for the full-size of the product that you keep, and then you wind up having the other samples and the full-sized gift product at no charge! If you're like me and you like to experiment with different beauty products, I think this is a great way to do so.

This is all of the products you get in the box! And they're really nice, too. Not bad for $79, right?

These are the four free samples. As you can see, they're not little packets--each one is .17oz (5ml). They're officially 7-day samples, but if you don't use them every day, they could last you a lot longer. That's pretty generous, if you ask me.

And this is the fifth "free gift" product, that you get to keep no matter what. I know this will last me at least a few months. You really can't go wrong, I'm telling you.

Along with everything else, you get this really nifty info booklet. It has in-depth information about each product you receive, how to use it, how often to use it, what the important ingredients are, how it works, etc. It's like a beauty buff's dream! Modere also has full ingredients lists of all of their products on their website if you're interested.

Now that we've talked about that, let's get into the products!

Exfoliant ($12.99 for 1.7 fl oz)

This is a gentle facial scrub, with particles so fine you might consider it a facial polish. If you like the Vasanti BrightenUp facial scrub (see my July Birchbox), I think you'll really enjoy this. Plus, it's cheaper, at $12.99 for 1.7 fl oz, instead of $34 for 4.23 oz for the Vasanti. It's also more inexpensive per ounce ($7.64/oz for Modere, $8.03/oz for Vasanti. Not a huge difference but worth mentioning). I don't generally use facial scrubs, but if they are incorporated into your regular skincare routine, this would be a good one to consider. Modere recommends using this 2-3 times a week.

Anti-Aging Serum ($39.99 for 1.5 fl oz)

It's really hard to find a good serum that isn't insanely expensive, so this is a good option to try. Modere recommends using this twice daily, but I've just been using it at night. This one has gotu kola in it, which is amazing for people with acne-prone skin, since it's antibacterial. It has a pleasant, clean fragrance and absorbs quickly into the skin. It makes skin feel smoother and softer, which is always a plus. The scent is mild, but it's good that they provide a sample so you can see if it irritates your skin or not. My skin is sensitive and I had no problem using this, but everyone is different, so put that sample to good use!

Antioxidant Gel ($24.99 for 1 fl oz)

I thought this product was the least exciting when I opened the box, but it's become my favorite out of all of these! Modere recommends using this twice a day after cleansing, though I've only been using it at night. This product looks and feels like a foundation primer in application, and rubs into nothing almost immediately on your skin.  This primarily serves as a vessel to provide your skin with Vitamin C, which is good for balancing your skin tone. If you like or are lusting after Ole Henrikson's Truth Serum, just get this instead. I've been using them both back and forth and I actually prefer this. This has a mildly citrus scent that dissipates almost immediately, rather than the overpowering candied orange scent the Ole Henrikson has (which can be potentially irritating to some). It's also way cheaper, at $24.99/oz instead of $48/oz for the Ole Henrikson. You're essentially saving 50%. Plus, this has a a different form of Vitamin C than the Ole Henrikson, called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, which I actually prefer since it's been formulated to penetrate the skin better. I'm in love so far!

Antioxidant Hair Serum ($21.99 for 1.5 fl oz)

I thought it was random that a hair product was included in an almost all-skincare box, but I really like this! My hair is only at shoulder-length right now, and it's pretty straight, but I find that this doesn't weigh my hair down at all. This has fragrance, though it's an extremely subtle "clean" scent. This has a number of different oils in it, including argan oil and jojoba seed oil, which I love because it's not just silicones like other brands. In the info booklet, Modere says you can use this on wet or dry hair. I've been using this when my hair is damp, from my ears and downward, and then combing it through. This full-sized bottle will last me forever!

Dual Action Eye Gel ($29.99 for .6 fl oz)

No matter how many full-sized products you keep at the end of the day, this eye gel is yours to keep! This is a gel formula that would be best suited for people who are not extremely dry under the eyes, though it is quite hydrating. I think it's a great option for mornings, because unlike some heavy creams, it won't make your eyes puffy and makeup lays nicely on top of it. Plus, it has hydrolized lupine protein, which in plain English means it provides antioxidants and is an anti-irritant. This tube will last you a long time, since you only need a little for both eyes. It has a barely-there clean scent to it that dissipates in a short amount of time. Modere recommends using this twice daily.

Fun Fact: Since the Modere Beauty Box just launched, they have a ton of ideas that they're working on implementing right now. I talked to my Modere representative, and she was really helpful and honest when it came to answering all of the questions I had (and you all know how much of a beauty detective I can be sometimes!). In the future, they're planning on coming out with features like a rating system for the products you receive, a larger selection of products that can come in your box, and a way to select your skin type and hair type. I love the idea of it becoming more customize-able in the future--it'll be like having a personal shopper for your skin! I would love the idea of being able to get my whole skincare regimen in this one box--$79 is a steal if you're getting everything you'll ever need.

Final Thoughts: Overall, I think this beauty box is really cool. It's something different, and I think everyone will like at least one product in here. It's really foolproof and risk free, because you get to try everything and only keep the products you love. Even if you don't like anything, you got to try everything and see what the brand is like. You might discover a new holy grail product that you never thought you'd like!

Where do you usually get your beauty products from? I'm mostly an online shopper, myself.
