Mail Time! April 2016

Hi, friends! I've been having some stuff pile up in the mail recently, so I thought I would share what I got with you! Think of this as a sneak peek into what you'll be seeing in future posts. Today we have a mix of orders I placed online, free samples I snagged, and products that companies sent to me for review. But enough about that. Let's get started!

OPI Nail Laquer in My Gondola or Yours? ($9.50 | .5oz)

OPI Nail Laquer in My Gondola or Yours?

I was so excited to wear my new Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers polish from my February Finds, only to find how sheer the it was when I first applied it! I figured it would be easier to have a black nail polish down as a base, rather than applying 3+ layers of glitter and hating myself when trying to take it off. So, I picked up this black nail polish from OPI's Venice collection. I'm usually pleased with OPI's polishes, so I figured this would work just fine. Can you believe I didn't own a basic black before this??

Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Across the Universe ($20 | .5 oz)

I can't even BEGIN to tell you how long I've lusted after this nail polish. After seeing gorgeous swatches of this oceanic nail polish I finally caved and picked it up! It's quite expensive for a nail polish, but I figured it was time I finally splurged. I'm so excited to wear it, and just in time for the warmer months, too! If this winds up being sheer like the Ruby Red Slippers polish I mentioned above, I have a few basic blue colors I can wear under this. I can't wait to show you guys!

Birchbox The Lip Sync Kit ($30)

Birchbox The Lip Sync Kit

This kit of five lip products is basically a capsule wardrobe for your lips. It has everything you really "need" -- a lip scrub, a universal lip liner, a tinted lip balm, an everyday lipstick, and a va-va voom long-lasting lip stain. I'd been eyeing it for awhile, and since I'm going to be working in another state this summer, I figured this could be a good set to bring with me. I'll be doing a full unboxing and review of this, so stay tuned!

Maybelline EyeStudio Brow Drama Pomade Crayon ($9.99 | .04oz)

I just received these brow pencils a few days ago, and I'm really curious about them. I received two colors (Blonde and Deep Brown), but I'm a blonde so I'll probably just stick to the lighter one. I still need some time to play with them, so I haven't formed an opinion yet, but I'll be sure to write up a review when I do!

Aveda Hair Products

Aveda sent me this whole package of hair goodies! I posted about it on my Instagram last week. Even though I can talk about makeup and skincare all day, hair is that one area I'm not so skilled in. I typically let my hair air-dry and my idea of styling is just doing a braid. But I'm going to mess around with some of these and see if I can master them. I'm thinking of trying something different with my hair and possibly even doing a hair tutorial if it goes well, so let me know if you'd like to see that!

CoverGirl + Olay Simply Ageless 3-in-1 Foundation (sample)
Shades L to R: Classic Ivory, Creamy Natural, Nude Beige, Warm Beige, Soft Honey, Classic Tan

I'm such a sucker for freebies. Whenever I see a company promoting free samples on their social media, I always try to snag them. Once I received this new foundation sample from CoverGirl, I figured I would just photograph swatches of all of the shades (since it's not like I'd get use out of all those colors otherwise). It's targeted at women fighting aging and wrinkles, so it's on the moisturizing side. The formula felt nice on my arm, but I have no idea about the staying power or how it'll work on my face. There's not enough in here for a full face of foundation--just enough to test the color.

I don't think any of these match me, actually! But being that the sample only includes 6 of the 12 shades, maybe I'll have better luck with the other 6. Judging by their website, it still looks like the darker side of the spectrum gets screwed, which is lame. You can get a free sample here if you want to see the shades for yourself!

April Birchbox ($10/mo)

April 2016 Birchbox

My monthly Birchbox just arrived! I'm so pumped! Also, how cute is this month's box? It was designed in partner with Rifle Paper Co., who makes gorgeous stationery, planners, calendars, and anything else having to do with paper. I'm such a fan of their style. This month's box came with a coupon code, so maybe I'll finally order something from them.

Birchbox Order Free Samples With Order

Cynthia Rowley Birchbox Samples
L: Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner in Black | R: Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stian

LOC & Shiseido Birchbox Samples

I placed an order on Birchbox recently, and it came with all of these free samples! Score! From the top photo, I already know I like Cynthia Rowley's lip stains (I've already received samples in two other colors from Birchbox in the past), and though I have enough black eyeliner pencils to last me for years, I'll take it! This lip stain, Sugar, looks like it'll be great for everyday. This is part of their Mystery Sample Pack, which is free with any $35 order, so I never place orders for less than that. Just because, why not wait if it means you can get free stuff?

On the bottom, this sample duo was available with a coupon code. Birchbox always has different promotions going on, so I try to wait until one strikes my fancy, like this one! The one I selected included a deluxe sample of one of the LOC (Love of Color) lipsticks, which is Birchbox's first makeup line. Tati (popular beauty YouTuber) actually designed this with Birchbox, so that's quite cool. The other product is an eye cream by Shiseido. I've never tried it, but I guess now's the time!

That's everything for now! I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my mailbox today!

Do you like to buy things in person, or are you more of an online shopper like me?
